Fuquay-Varina emergency officials rushed to the Terrible Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant last Thursday after a supervisor was seriously injured.

According to Fuquay-Varina Public Information Officer Susan Weis, emergency officials responded to a call at 9:15 a.m. at the Terrible Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant. Weis said Dan Hackney, a supervisor at the plant, was replacing equipment when his leg got caught in the equipment. The equipment was below ground level.

Emergency officials with Fuquay-Varina Fire Station #2 were the first to arrive on the scene. It took them approximately an hour to free Hackney from the equipment.

Hackney was taken to Wake Med Trauma Center for his injuries. While Weis said she could not confirm the extent of Hackney’s injuries. Other reports have stated that Hackney severed his foot in the accident.

The matter is under investigation. Representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were in Fuquay on Thursday and industrial hygenists from OSHA also were present on Friday.

OSHA has six months to render any findings and decisions about the incident.
