Raleigh - Mary Marjorie Bartgis Adkins, 86, died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Barbara D. Bendle, in Raleigh, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 25 at Bliley-Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. Family received friends between 10 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the Funeral services. Interment followed at Maury Cemetery, Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Adkins was born February 16, 1926 in Hinton, WV, and was the only daughter of the late John Henry Bartgis and Ethel Pack Bartgis. She lived in Richmond, Va., for over 50 years. She was a devoted member of Bethany Place Baptist Church for over 40 years where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated daughter, a wonderful, loving mother and a doting grandmother and Ga-Ga. Her Lord, her family and her many friends were her life.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aubrey Jackson Adkins, and her three brothers, William M. Bartgis, Shannon B. Bartgis and John Henry Bartgis, Jr.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by her son, Danny W. Duff and wife, Sharlee; daughter, Barbara Duff Bendle; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
