What if every single electrical device made in China in the past 30 years suddenly stopped working?

What would happen to Western civilization in general – and the United States in particular – if electrical grids, satellites, computers and engine management systems throughout the world no longer functioned?

How would the world survive in a new age of darkness?

This scenario is the basis of “Invasion USA,” a four-book series written by Fuquay-Varina resident Tollan Wade. The success of the series has placed Wade on Kindle’s “Top 100 Indie Authors” watch list.

The fourth book, “Invasion USA: The Battle for Houston … The Aftermath” was released last week.

“It’s doing well,” said Wade. “All the books have been well received. I feel they are intellectual and engaging. The reviews have been very interesting.”

The premise of the series is that a Chinese company is attempting to rearrange the balance of world power with a sinister plot that involves disabling all Chinese-made electrical devices.

Among the main heroes in the series are a group of vintage World War II airplane enthusiasts in Apex who fly out of a small airfield near Jordan Lake.

“Local residents will certainly be able to relate to the areas I write about,” said Wade. “I can take you on U.S. 64 and point out exactly where I (envisioned) the airfield.”

Other heroes fighting to save the world include members of the U.S. military, including a squad of Navy Seals.

Wade, who is a native of Kent, England, has dedicated each of the four books to the four branches of the military.

“I felt it was appropriate to dedicate the books to them,” said Wade. “In fact, the books have been very popular with members of the military serving overseas.”

Wade believes “Invasion USA” would make a great movie or even television series. But before that can ever happen he needs to start gaining more public recognition, a very difficult task for an independent author.

“The easiest part of the process is the actual writing,” said Wade. “The hardest part is trying to promote it. (“Invasion USA”) is as good as “The Hunger Games” or “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The only difference is that people don’t know I exist. But it is coming. People are starting to learn about my books.”
