A lineup of dynamic Catholic speakers will help ignite a fire for the Catholic faith at the 9th Annual Ignited By Truth Catholic Conference February 25-26 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Jim Graham Building. Ignited By Truth is the largest conference in the Diocese of Raleigh, with a history of drawing up to 2,200 attendees from 22 states. The public is invited to attend.

Mindful of its mission, “bringing to light the truth of the teachings of the Catholic Church and igniting in our hearts a love for our Faith”, Ignited By Truth offers a weekend of spiritual insight and inspiration for people of all faith traditions. Subjects range from Sacred Scripture to Bioethics.

The free Friday evening workshop is devoted to those considering entering the Catholic Church. The theme of the evening is “Discover the Catholic Church”. The event begins at 6:00pm with Live Praise and Worship Music and will feature two speakers, who will be part of Saturday’s program: Dr. Brant Pitre on “A Biblical Tour of the Mass” and Jeremy Rivera on “Questioning Life and Faith”.

Saturday will offer a full day of presentations, beginning with Morning Prayer at 8:30am.

Speakers include:

Matthew Kelly, Author of “Rediscovering Catholicism” (www. matthewkelly.org) – Australia-born Matthew travels the globe teaching people of all faith traditions how to become the best-version-of-themselves. His talk entitled “Is Catholicism Still Relevant?” will focus on the gifts God pours out through the Catholic Church, enabling each member to find and follow the mission He has entrusted to them. Dr. Brant Pitre, Professor of Sacred Scripture (www. BrantPitre.com) – now teaches at Notre Dame Seminary in Louisiana, specializing in Ancient Judaism and the New Testament. In “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist”, he will reveal God’s saving plan through history, bringing to life the mysteries experienced in the Faith today.

Jeremy Rivera, Director of Communications for FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students - www. FocusOnline.org) – Jeremy trains teams of young missionaries to be sent to over 50 college campuses across the U.S. to reach students with the Gospel. His presentation “Call to Evangelization” will teach how we can battle the evils invading our culture, by being a witness for the faith to others. Dr. Reinhard Huetter, Professor of Christian Theology – On fire for the Faith, German Professor Huetter is a former Lutheran who now teaches at Duke Divinity School and writes about the intricacies of Catholicism. His witness “Drawn to the Church by the Light of Divine Faith” will take us on his journey of discovery through the foundations of our Faith which captivated his heart, leading him to the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church.

Deby Schlapprizzi, Pro-Life Advocate and Radio Host (splendorofyou.com) – Driven by her desire to help shape a society more respectful of the sacredness of all human life, Deby addresses matters of faith and morals in contemporary living. In her talk “Splendor of You” she inspires women and men of all ages to discover the handprint of God within and to let His splendor shine.

Dr. Patrick Yeung & Dr. Patrick O’Connell, Duke University Medicine - Drs. Yeung and O’Connell believe that “good ethics is good medicine.” Their informative presentation “Catholic Bioethics & Women’s Fertility: Current Issues & Technology” will address the hot topics and recent developments in Biotechnology and Women’s Health and explain the Catholic Church’s position.

Live Praise and Worship Music by Kim Kalman (www. KimKalman.com) between the talks will enhance the experience of the conference.

The day also includes sessions for students ages ten and up with FOCUS campus missionaries Katie O’Donnell and Jeremy Rivera on “The Role of the Youth in the Church”.

The Ignited By Truth conference ends with a 5:00pm Vigil Mass celebrated by The Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of the Diocese of Raleigh. All are welcome to attend Mass.

The Jim Graham Building at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds is located at 1025 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh.
