Chick-fil-A locations across the country were filled with customers Wednesday, Aug. 1 as supporters rallied for owner Dan Cathy’s right to speak out against same-sex marriage.
The company had “record-setting” sales from the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day that was started by conservative commentator for Fox News Mike Huckabee. However, Chick-fil-A said it was business as usual and would not release specific sales totals for the day.
Patrons of the Chick-fil-A in Fuquay-Varina said they came out to show their support for Cathy’s First Amendment right as well as traditional marriage.
To blast the company’s owner for a Biblical view is obscene, said Margaret Centamore.
Her only problem with the event was the lack of voter registration tables set up.
“Everybody is clearly voting with their feet today,” Centamore said.
She and her husband, Bob, also were representing friends that couldn’t take part in the event.
Judy Bevan said she was upset by the media outcry over the Cathy’s statements. It seems like the Constitution is getting steamrolled, she said.
The company faced backlash on Friday as supporters of same-sex marriage boycotted Chick-fil-A locations.
