A Garden Party on a warm summer day was well attended by ladies and gentlemen from Fuquay, Raleigh and surrounding towns. On Saturday, June 9, ladies dressed in flowing summer dresses, attractively decorated hats and gloves, showing their enthusiasm for the Fuquay-Varina Garden Club’s event in the spacious gardens of Anne Smith of Willow Spring. Some of the gentlemen were attired in white slacks and straw hats.
The tea sandwiches and desserts were prepared by ladies from the Garden Club and the F-V Women’s Club. Flower arrangements were donated by members of the clubs.
Gifts for a Tea Cup Auction were donated by David Anthony’s, Shoppes on Main, The Garden Hut, The Vine, The Cup Cake Bite, Dr. Thomas C. Street, DDS PA donated a $500 gift basket of Teeth Whitener, Sweet Creations, Bellini’s and Becky Alexander, an artist featured at Ashley’s Art Gallery. These prizes helped the Garden Club raise money for their community involvement.
Music was the highlight of the afternoon with performances by Opera Singer, Karen Dear of Willow Spring, Clarinetist, Tara Glaspey and Scottish Fiddler, David Klinger. The Gerald Parker Jazz Band of Fuquay-Varina played many selections that were enjoyed by the guests. Lawn games were available to play, but most of the ladies and gentlemen preferred the delicious food and conversation during the event.
“This reminds me of an old-fashioned southern garden party”, remarked one guest. “I hope we can do this again soon.”
