Team Fuquay-Varina Raises $1,500 for Relay for Life
Approximately 20 town employees, town officials and several Chamber members hosted a Relay for Life BBQ Fundraiser on Thursday, May 10 raising approximately $1,500 that will be donated to the American Cancer Society for cancer research. The group, part of Team Fuquay-Varina, a partnership between the Town and Chamber, will also walk in the Relay for Life hosted at Holly Grove Middle School this coming Saturday, May 19. Pictured from left to right are Carla Morgan, Jonathan Holland, Chris Grimes, Johnny Jones, Tracy Stephenson, Commissioner Jim Abernethy and Mike Sorensen. Mayor John Byrne is an Honorary Chairman of the event. The team wants to give a big thank you to all the citizens that came out to support the fundraising effort! Relay For Life of South Wake, serving the towns of Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina, will be held on May 19-20 at Holly Grove Middle School, 1401 Avent Ferry Road, Holly Springs beginning at 12 noon. All Cancer Survivors are invited to participate in the inaugural lap and to attend a special reception with a guest.

Relay For Life an event sponsored by both towns, offers a family filled day with a myriad of children’s activities as well as entertainment, fun and prizes. All proceeds will benefit The American Cancer Society.

Closing ceremonies will begin on Sunday, May 20 at 5:00 AM.

The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Public Issues Community Service Program collected items for the SPCA of Wake County from the club members. The group made a delivery Jan. 28 that included eight bottles of bleach, 10 boxes of dog treats, one large container of small dog treats, various small packages of dog treats, paper towels, seven cans of canned dog food, Kitten Chow and a $25 donation.  Darci VanderSlik accepted the donations along with one of the puppies for adoption.
