SAVOR Fuquay-Varina was a success last weekend as 23 local vendors shared samplings of their menus. The event was packed with Fuquay-Varinians ready to try out the local fare.

With so many choices, there were some clear favorites during the day.

The SAVOR’s Best award went to Food Simply Fresh for the Voodoo Pulled Pork. Second place was awarded to the Growers Market for Not Your Mama’s Biscuits and Gravy.

Viva la Difference was given to Ragin’ Cajun’ and the Meeting Corner took second place.

Stick Boy Bread Co. took first place in the Spirit of Fuquay-Varina category for its fruit tart. Not Your Mama’s Biscuits and Grave won the Growers Market another second place award.

The Healthy Choice category was taken by the Meeting Corner with the Growers Market coming in second again for its spring roll.

SAVOR the Sweet’s first place winner was Togamay for its May Time Truffle. Second place went to Rebecca’s Grill for the Banana Split Cake.

But the attendees also got the chance to give out an award. Highgrove at Laurel Lake won first; Food Simply Fresh won second and Rebecca’s Grill won third.

The Fuquay-Varina Woman’s Club Public Issues Community Service Program collected items for the SPCA of Wake County from the club members. The group made a delivery Jan. 28 that included eight bottles of bleach, 10 boxes of dog treats, one large container of small dog treats, various small packages of dog treats, paper towels, seven cans of canned dog food, Kitten Chow and a $25 donation.  Darci VanderSlik accepted the donations along with one of the puppies for adoption.
