The Celebrate Fuquay-Varina festival is free, family fun in true Fuquay-Varina style and it’s this weekend, June 1 and 2. Expect live entertainment, exciting children’s activities, classic cars, and more than 70 regional arts vendors.
On Friday, June 1, the festival kicks-off with a concert headlining Spare Change. The concert will be held in the Varina Downtown District on Broad Street beginning at 8 p.m. From contemporary to classic with a bit of funk, Spare Change brings crowds to their feet with a refreshing and exciting mix of music, sound and light. Remember to bring a lawn chair! Motorists need to plan for street closures on and around Broad Street at approximately 4 p.m.
On Saturday June 2, festivities will be held in the Fuquay Downtown District on South Main Street from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. On the day of the event, maps and brochures will be available at the Town Information Tent and on Shuttles, but feel free to download them prior to your visit at www.CelebrateFV.com.
Here’s a short walk through Saturday’s activities. Expect a Kid Zone with rides, inflatables, a rock wall, face painting, and a clown. The Main Entertainment Tent on Main Street will feature Michael Creech, Lauren Light, Eric “E-Train” Manning, Tim White and Amanda Higgins performing throughout the day. The Mayor’s Walk, a short history walk through the downtown area, starts at 10:15 a.m. at the Main Entertainment Tent. Make sure to get there early because the first 50 participants get a free t-shirt.
The King BMX Bike Show performs at 11 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and local performers will take the stage at the Community Showcase on Vance Street all day long. Make sure to visit the Community Showcase at 12-12:45 pm for a live public auction of seven paintings by local artists from the recent En Plein Air paint-off held in April. Be the highest bidder and you could take one of these beautiful landscape paintings of downtown Fuquay-Varina home. Funds raised will benefit the Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association.
