Attention art lovers, downtown Fuquay-Varina will hold the Second Annual ‘En Plein Air Paint-Off’ event, which literally translates into “in the open air.” During the paint-off, our state’s most talented artists will line the streets of the Fuquay District, Varina District, Residential Historic District and The Link. The four-hour contest will challenge each participant to create an original masterpiece of downtown’s historic landscape.
This N.C. award-winning event is a means of supporting artists and bringing public art to the local streets. In fact, a public auction will be held on June 1, during the Celebration of the Arts festival where landscape enthusiasts will have a chance to take home one of these treasured paintings in what looks to become a collection that will be revered for many generations to come. The top three winners will have their artwork enlarged onto oversized canvases and placed on brick walls within the historic downtown districts.
April 12 is the perfect time to spend an evening in downtown Fuquay-Varina. The event will begin at 3 p.m. in conjunction with the Downtown Cruise In and Art After Dark. Judging will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal lot across from Ashworth’s Clothing. The Becky Medlin Trolley and FVDA’s rickshaws will assist attendees in moving to all the artist locations.
