For those looking for fun things for your family to do this summer, local Parks and Recreation officials offer a lot of great summer fun.

Fuquay-Varina officials said that every Friday in July, residents can view a free, family-friendly movie at Falcon Park. Movies will begin at dusk and free popcorn and drinks will be served. The event is sponsored by the Cornerstone Family Church and organized by Fuquay-Varina’s Parks and Recreation. The first movie will be held July 6 and is Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. On July 13, officials will show Rio and July 20 Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Only July 27, residents can watch Marmaduke.

However, the family fun in Fuquay-Varina does not stop there. The town will host an Independence Day Celebration at South Park on Tuesday, July 3.

“Gates open at 6 p.m. with the Extraordinaires, playing a range of music sure to please everyone beginning at 7 p.m.,” Town officials said. “Kids can enjoy free inflatables, rides and activities prior to the fireworks which begin at sundown. Make sure to bring a blanket or chair and get there early to claim the best location to view the fireworks. The event is alcohol-free, however, coolers are allowed. Food vendors will be on site.”

Residents are reminded that animals are prohibited at the event.

For those wanted to learn new dance moves, Fuquay-Varina Parks and Recreation officials also offer several new dance classes. Beginning Bellydance classes are being offered to residents 15 and over. Classes are held July 19- Aug. 23. The time of the class is from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The class is divided into two seven class sessions. The fee is $36 for the class. Interested residents can contact Parks and Recreation officials for more information about the class.

Little children ages two and three can take an introduction to dance class this summer. Dancers will learn to listen, move to the music and listen to lots of fun songs. The fee for the class is $9 and the dates for the class are July 13-27. Interested residents need to contact Parks and Recreation officials for sign up and more information.

Parks and Recreation officials also offer children a summer camp opportunity this summer. Science, Wild Kingdom, Clowns, nature and art are just a few of the camp’s themes that Parks and Recreation officials are offering area children this summer. The camp is offered for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Camp registration packets are now available at Town Hall and the Community Center and the camp runs until August 10.
