February is the month for “following your heart” and what better way to do that than to read a great romance. So, to help you find just the right book, we’re featuring recent RITA Award Winners in a variety of categories. The Romance Writers of America bestow their RITA award each year to promote excellence in the romance genre by recognizing outstanding published romance novels. The award itself is a golden statuette named after the organization’s first president, Rita Clay Estrada, and has become the symbol for excellence in published romance fiction.

STAFF PICKS FOR ADULTS

Whether you like the paranormal, the suspenseful, the historical or the contemporary, these award winners are available now in the Wake County Public Library system.

FICTION

Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances, sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Worse still, Polly must at all costs resist Damon in the most dangerously romantic city in the world.

“Boomerang Bride” by Fiona Lowe (downloadable eBook)

Now, wearing a wedding dress, she’s alone on Main Street in small-town Wisconsin, and things aren’t working out exactly as planned. In town for his annual family visit, Marc Olsen had never seen a bride quite like Matilda, staring into a storefront window, holding a tottering wedding cake, and looking desperately in need of a groom. He may not have any warm feelings for his hometown, but meeting Matilda just as she discovers she’s been scammed by her online “fiancé” stirs something in him.

The other is to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago.
