A traffic light will be installed soon at the intersection of Academy Street and Judd Parkway.

The town board last week approved payment of $55,000 for the light that will be installed by the NC Department of Transportation.

Another traffic light is scheduled for installation at the Angier Road-Judd Parkway intersection. Public Works Director Arthur Mouberry said the Angier Road light was planned for installation in July; however, it is a DOT project and the department is running behind. The work could begin at any time, Mouberry said.

A third light is also planned for the intersection of Old Honeycutt Road and Judd Road. Mouberry did not know when that is likely to occur, but he said it is on the DOT “Spot Safety” list.

The DOT normally checks intersections and determines where a traffic light is needed. A qualifying crossing then goes on the Spot Safety list. As the intersection comes up on the list, the department does the installation and pays for the light. In the case of Academy and Judd, that intersection had not made the list by DOT standards, but the town decided a light was needed and agreed to pay the price.
