Brittany Saad rescues horses that face owners neglect or medical conditions through the non-profit organization, the Love of Lacey Equine Rescue.

After Brittany Saad experienced a unique horse rescue three years ago, she realized there are many horses in need of health rehabilitation, whether it is because of owners neglect or medical conditions.

Saad has been working on a horse rescue program known as Love of Lacey Equine Rescue for the last three years. The program first started with a horse, named Lacey, that Brittany rescued.

Neglect from her previous owner left Lacey very. Brittany, her mother, Micki Saad, and her boyfriend, Bryan Davis, tried tirelessly to save Lacey, but unfortunately the horse passed away. From that moment on, Brittany had her heart set on starting a horse rescue program.

Brittany’s friend, who runs a canine rescue program, helped her get started.

For the past seven years, Brittany gained experience as a technician at Hilltop Animal Hospital. Brittany graduated from N.C. State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science.

Now, she hopes to start veterinary school at N.C. State University next year.

So far, Brittany has rescued a total of eight horses and counting.

Currently, she has three horses in her program. In the past, Brittany has rescued two horses from a horse meat market in New Jersey and two or three from the animal shelter to re-home.

After rescuing a horse, Brittany starts the rehabilitation process, feeding the animal, assessing what help is needed and finding a forever home.

Brittany is able to find homes for these horses through social media like Facebook and through her website by getting the word out about these horses and the horse rescue program. Within the next week, Brittany hopes to have a pet finder account set up to search for horses that have been through rehabilitation and now are up for adoption.

Through Brittany’s Love of Lacey Equine Rescue, she hopes to rescue and rehabilitate horses that have no other option. Also, she wants to educate the community on the proper care along with the medical issues horses could face. But mostly, her goal is to prevent mistreatment from happening to other horses in the future.
