Now – November 30

  • During park hours – Pecan Harvesting Month

The family is invited to Historic Oak View County Park to harvest pecans. Bags are available at the Farm History Center. Park hours are Monday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m.to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. For information, call 919-250-1013. Historic Oak View County Park is located at 4028 Carya Drive in Raleigh.

Friday and Nov. 20

  • 5-6 p.m. – Fall Night Hike

Grab your flashlights and a cozy jacket and join park staff for a night hike on the American Tobacco Trail. This program will meet at the White Oak Parking Lot located at 1305 White Oak Church Road in Apex. The fee is $5 per family or $3 per person. To register, call 919-387-4342. American Tobacco Trail is located at 1309 New Hill-Olive Chapel Road in New Hill.

Saturday and Sunday

  • 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. – A Weekend of Hay Rides

Visit Harris Lake County Park for hay ride fun. Saturday is the Fall Colors ride, and Sunday is the Veterans Day Patriotic ride. All rides are $5 per family or $3 per person. On Sunday, all rides are free for veterans and their families. To register, call 919-387-4342. Harris Lake County Park is located at 2112 County Park Drive in New Hill.

Tuesday

  • 1-3 p.m. – Homeschool Day – Bread, a Slice of Science

Children of all ages are invited to explore how wheat was milled at the water-powered mill, and make a wacky bread sculpture to take home. The fee is $8 per individual. Pre- registration is required. Saturday, Nov. 17

  • 4 -6 p.m. – Harmless Hunting

Go on a harm-free hunt for deer at Lake Crabtree County Park. Learn how to track deer by looking for signs they leave behind. Meet at the Waterwise Garden. The fee is $3 per person or $5 per family. Pre- registration is required. For information, call 919-460-3390. Lake Crabtree is located at 1400 Aviation Parkway in Morrisville.

  • 6:30-9 p.m. – Night Owls and Candle Magic Special Event

Bring the “night owls” in your family to enjoy the magic of a stroll along Blue Jay County Park’s luminaria-lined trail as you learn about the late fall seasonal activities of our local owls. Listen to stories, see live owls, enjoy hot cocoa and make a lantern-lit craft project. This is a free event. Baby backpacks are recommended rather than strollers. No dogs allowed. For information, call 919-870-4330. Blue Jay Point County Park is located at 3200 Pleasant Union Church Road in Raleigh.
