Make the holidays merry and bright by ringing in the season with these traditional Town festivities.

On Sunday, the Chamber of Commerce will hold the annual Christmas parade at 3 p.m. on Main Street between Ennis Street and Fuquay Avenue. The parade promises floats, bands and, of course, Santa.

Come ready to hear holiday music and visit with Santa at the Town of Fuquay-Varina’s traditional Christmas tree lighting on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the large municipal lot at the corner of Vance and South Main Streets. The event begins at 6 p.m. with free face painting provided by Girl Scout Unit #15. Santa arrives at 6:30 p.m. Holiday music will be provided by Ballentine, Lincoln Heights, Herbert Akins and Fuquay-Varina Elementary and High Schools. Fuquay-Varina Middle School will provide both choral and band music.

While at the Town’s Christmas tree lighting, visit the free sleigh rides organized by the Downtown Revitalization Association and sponsored by Patriot State Bank. These beautiful horse-drawn sleigh rides start at T.R. Ashworth’s B.P. Station at 120 South Main St. from 6 to 8 p.m. Make sure to be in line by 7:30 because rides end at 8 p.m. sharp.

Finally, don’t forget our neighbors in need. The Fuquay-Varina Fire Department is collecting non-perishable food items for the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Food Bank through Dec. 14. Donations will feed local families. Drop your donation at one of the fire stations, Town Hall or the Food Lion located at 1508 Broad St.
