Local students reach new academic heights at Western Carolina

Western Carolina University has announced its graduation and Dean’s List for fall semester 2012.

The university in December conferred degrees on 638 students who completed their studies during the fall semester. A total of 182 undergraduate students received academic honors, with 42 graduating summa cum laude (with highest honors), 68 graduating magna cum laude (with high honors) and 72 graduating cum laude (with honors).

Tiffany Nicole Bass of Fuquay-Varina received a Master of Arts degree in Teaching (Comp Educ/Special Ed Adaptive). Courtney E. Crigger of Holly Springs, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Madalyn Lacy Flanary of Holly Springs earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. Chester Stanley Pajerski of Holly Springs received a Master of Project Management degree.

A total of 2,034 students at Western Carolina University have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester 2012, according to Angi Brenton, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 on a regular semester’s work of not less than 12 hours, excluding remedial courses, with no grade of D or F.
