In the past six weeks, the Holly Grove Middle School Student Council has held a series of fund-raisers to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and a mission called “Light the Night.” This is an evening fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by blood cancer. The students raised money through school-wide donations, carpool donations, a pizza night at All Aboard Pizza and pizza ticket sales.
This led up to the main event Oct. 13 where the students gathered with approximately 3,000 supporters and survivors in downtown Raleigh to “Light the Night.” Altogether HGMS raised $1,717.66 to bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers. Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely event, walkers carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer - thousands of walkers - men, women and children - form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer.
