WCPSS high schools are offering freshman camps to help ninth graders begin their journey as the Class of 2013.

While the camps serve some of the same purposes of orientation sessions held in the past, high school faculties have focused on relationship and team building exercises that are part of the school system's efforts to meet the needs of each student.

Each high school has developed its own camp to help personalize school for studenta, helping them to make the connections with faculty and staff to achieve their personal best.

Camps begin as early as July 15. Many will be held in August. Some of the schools have set up webpages with information about their camps.

Several of the schools will hold parent sessions

At Southeast Raleigh High, parents and students will have a 45 minute session together in the auditorium the first day for welcoming and introductions and then parents will have a one hour session.

At Athens Drive High, parents will meet for 90 minutes beginning at 8:30 a.m. while their students are in orientation.

At Cary High, parent sessions will run concurrently with the session for their child and parents can sign up for sessions on the Cary High website.

At Fuquay-Varina High, 30 minute parent orientation sessions are held at the beginning of the day on July 28 and 30 and at the end of the day on August 5.

At Green Hope High, parents will have an orientation in the school auditorium from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of their students' orientation.

At Wakefield High, orientation sessions are held at Wakefield North where ninth graders attend class for the parents of students whose last name's begin with "A-K" on August 18 and for the parents of students whose last name's begin with "L-Z" on August 29.

At Wake Forest-Rolesville High, parents will have an orientation at the school's ninth grade center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of their students orientation.

Check individual schools to see what they have planned.
