The Wake County Domestic Violence Task Force is inviting the community to participate in a silent march in downtown Raleigh in response to the fourth domestic violence-related homicide of 2009 in Wake County.
The march will recognize the death of Jammie Shantel Street, 30, of Fuquay-Varina, on October 7. Her boyfriend, Daniel Jerome Montgomery, 31, of Angier, is in the hospital after shooting himself in the chest. Police said he is under guard and will be jailed when he recovers, according to the News and Observer.
The silent march is intended to raise community awareness about domestic violence and the local programs and services available to support domestic violence victims and their families. A march will take place on a Tuesday after every domestic violence homicide in Wake County.
