At approximately 3:15 p.m. today, the Wake County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant for drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a meth lab at 1913 Buck Rowland Road, Willow Spring, North Carolina.

Upon entering the residence, James Robert Crumpler confronted the Wake County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team. Scott Earp, a SRT officer, fired one time and struck Crumpler. Crumpler sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Wake Med, treated, and released.

The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending against Crumpler.

As is customary, the SBI will investigate the shooting. Deputy Earp has been with the Sheriff's Office for over 11 years and with the Special Response Team since July 2008. Earp has been placed on administrative leave.
