The Bengals (7-1, 4-1) got touchdowns from four different players and the Fuquay defense posted its second shutout of the season cruising to a 47-0 win at Green Hope (0-9, 0-6) on Friday night. Senior, quarterback, Nate Budde scored on runs of 1, 17 and 4 yards. Junior wing back, Eric Powell had touchdowns runs of 8 and 21 yards. Junior fullback, Cory Hunter scored on a 32-yard run and wing back, Malcom Thaxton broke a 60-yard touchdown run. Fuquay kicker, Elias Bender connected for five PAT’s in the game.

The Fuquay defense held Green Hope to just 64 rushing yards and 99 yards through the air.

Hunter rushed for 154 yards on Friday night. He’s averaging 184 yards per game. Hunter has scored 21 touchdowns this fall. Budde ran for 70 yards and completed three passes for 43 yards.

A stiffer test awaits this Friday night as Fuquay welcomes Athens Drive (6-2, 4-1) for homecoming. The Jaguars are coming off a big win of their own, a 46-6 trouncing of Panther Creek (4-4, 2-3). Athens Drive is averaging just over 30 points per game, led by running back, Kyree Green and quarterback Ben Snotherly.

Green is averaging 147 rushing yards per game and has scored 16 touchdowns. Snotherly has been averaging 162 passing yards per game in the Jags’ spread attack. His favorite targets are Louis Wilder (455 yards, 4 TD’s) and A.J. Stewart (252 yards, 1 TD). Snotherly has also been effective when he keeps the ball, averaging 64 rushing yards this fall.

“They’ve got an explosive offense that’s been working pretty good for five years now,” Fuquay coach, Ryan Habich said of Athens Drive. “They’ve also got some pretty good players, some pretty good athletes on defense. It should be another pretty good game at home for us.”

Bengals Soccer

Fuquay-Varina (13-4-1, 8-4-1) posted a 1-1 draw with Tri-9 leader, Green Hope on Monday night to remain in the hunt for the conference top spot. The Bengals were coming off a three-game losing streak, entering Monday’s match. With two setbacks to Apex (13-3-0, 10-2-0) and a 4-3 overtime loss at Holly Springs (6-10-2, 4-8-2) Fuquay needed to get back on track against the Tri-9 leader. David Lane scored for Fuquay on Monday night, keeping the Bengals in the mix of Tri-9 leaders. Currently in third place behind the Falcons and Apex, Fuquay will need good results tonight at Athens Drive (11-5-4, 8-5-2), at home on Monday with Middle Creek (9-4-4, 7-3-3) and next Wednesday against Lee County (0-15, 0-12).
